Curriculum: Physical Education

The Physical Education department aims to contribute to the general education of every child through the medium of a wide variety of physical experiences. The department plays a vital role in the development of the individual both physically and socially. Through stimulating, varied and challenging experiences, children have the opportunity for self-development and self-fulfilment. They are encouraged to achieve their potential whilst developing respect for, sensitivity to, and care for others.

In Physical Education we aim to enable pupils to enjoy and have fun in Physical Education whilst learning in a positive environment. Pupils work in a variety of groups and contexts, leading to tolerance and sensitivity and are encouraged to participate in sport as a foundation for future participation in the community.

Boys teamed up for physical Education

We encourage pupils to participate to the best of their ability in areas of the curriculum as laid down in the National Curriculum Programmes of Study. These areas include hockey, football, rugby, volleyball, dance, gymnastics, cross country, orienteering, athletics, rounders, cricket, fitness and lacrosse.

Pupils are provided with the opportunity to participate in a range of extra-curricular activities throughout the year in order to develop their skills, team work, self-esteem, determination and healthy lifestyles. We have links with the surrounding Upper schools and local clubs/coaches who also help provide and support the extensive extra-curricular programme. The activities offered throughout the year include gymnastics, dance, rugby, football, netball, rounders, netball, cricket, athletics, cross country, tennis, badminton and a rowing club.

Above all, we seek to involve all the children in the challenges and enjoyment of sport, irrespective of their ability.
